Citizenship

We conduct citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Council ceremonies are usually held at Shellharbour City Council Chambers and are conducted approximately every two months.

Some ceremonies are conducted to coincide with significant days for Australian Citizenship. These include Australia Day (26 January) and Australian Citizenship Day (September). The Australia Day ceremony is held as part of Council's annual Australia Day Celebrations at Reddall Reserve.

The final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen, for most people, is to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge at a citizenship ceremony. Once the DIAC has approved your application, your details will be passed on to Council and you will be invited to attend a ceremony.  Citizenship ceremonies are special events; they fulfil requirements under Australian citizenship law.

To apply for citizenship go to DIAC website and download the application form or apply online (see related links). For further information please call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
