Business health standards

Shellharbour City Council, in partnership with the NSW Food Authority is responsible for the monitoring and regulation of retail food businesses within the Shellharbour Local Government Area.
We provide advice and approve new businesses, monitor food hygiene practices, follow up on complaints, and make sure business owners and their staff comply with food safety laws and standards. Food businesses are inspected to ensure compliance with the Food Act 2003, Food Regulation 2010 and the Food Standards Code (which incorporates the Food Safety Standards).
A food business or premises is an enterprise or activity that involves the handling of food intended for sale, and/or the sale of food. This includes mobile food vans, caterers, food shops and home catering businesses.
