Big win: Shellharbour included in Regional Growth Fund

Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward MP has today announced Shellharbour will share in the NSW’s Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, starting with $2 million to breathe life into community projects as part of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Mr Ward made direct representations to the NSW Deputy Premier, who decided to include Shellharbour in this Fund.

Mr Ward also thanked the Mayor of Shellharbour Marianne Saliba for raising this matter with him.

“This is fantastic news for the people of Shellharbour,” he said.

“Our community has been calling for this and now we can apply for funding to upgrade sports facilities, enliven our economy and make our communities more vibrant.

“The $2 million committed under Stronger Country Communities will go to selected projects that promise to enhance the attractiveness of Shellharbour, such as better parks, local sports facilities or community infrastructure.

“The $2 million commitment is a great start and we will be working with the community to ensure it goes to priority projects.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Marianne Saliba who worked with me to secure this outcome today. I deeply appreciate her leadership and advocacy on this issue,” Mr Ward said.

The Mayor of Shellharbour Marianne Saliba welcomed today’s announcement that Shellharbour was indeed classified as a regional area.
“It was wonderful to hear Gareth make that announcement today as I have been lobbying for recognition as a region for almost 12 months now,” Cr Saliba said.

“I’m pleased with the decision to include Shellharbour in the Regional Growth Fund and I very much look forward to seeing the benefits this funding will provide.

“This money is very much needed in our community and I appreciate Gareth Ward’s cooperation on this issue, and for helping ensure that Shellharbour’s regional status is secure,” Mayor Saliba said.
