Clear roads ahead for Shell Cove as construction begins

New Harbour Boulevard connection will keep people moving
•  $4 million stage two commences
•  Infrastructure specialist BMD Constructions appointed to deliver
•  Roadworks to run April to September

Construction of the second stage of Harbour Boulevard, which provides the key secondary road access into Shell Cove, commenced today. This road also provides an important connection for locals and visitors between Shell Cove and Shellharbour Village, the Scout Hall and Skate Park.

The start of stage two construction is a major milestone for the new community and on hand to mark the occasion was Shellharbour City Council Mayor Marianne Saliba, representatives from joint developer Frasers Property Australia and members of the construction team.

"It's critical to ensure the transport infrastructure is delivered in line with the rest of the amenity at Shell Cove, including the parks and marina that will give the community its own identity. Harbour Boulevard is one of the most important parts of the local road network and we're pleased it's progressing to schedule," Cr Saliba says.

Stage two works include extending the completed first stage of Harbour Boulevard 225 metres to connect to a new intersection with traffic signals at Wattle and Shellharbour Roads. It represents an investment of approximately $4 million and will be complete in the second half of this year.

The final and third stage of Harbour Boulevard has also recently commenced and will cover 450 metres from the completed section of Harbour Boulevard and connect to Bass Point Tourist Road. It will be completed before the end of September 2018.

Glenn Colquhoun, Development Director – Shell Cove, Frasers Property Australia says the new intersection will open a key second access point and link for businesses and residents within the community.

“Splitting traffic flows between access roads at Shell Cove has been part of the long term traffic strategy for the project and will distribute traffic flows between Cove Boulevard and the new Harbour Boulevard,” Mr Colquhoun says.

BMD Constructions, part of the national BMD Group, has been appointed to deliver the stage two construction of Harbour Boulevard. The company has completed major road, freeway, bridge and other infrastructure projects around the country and is a specialist in minimising disruption when undertaking new infrastructure works.

There will be some impacts to the existing roads at Shell Cove while the next stages of Harbour Boulevard are built. New traffic management plans, traffic controls and signage will be used to keep people informed and safe.

Addison Street will be closed for approximately two months to enable the reconstruction of road links to Shellharbour Village, the Scout Hall and Skate Park. Access to Shellharbour Village will be via Mary Street while the temporary road closure is in effect. Additionally, new traffic lights will be installed at the new intersection between Addison Street and Harbour Boulevard.

When the stage three works are completed, the access to Bass Point will be permanently redirected via Harbour Boulevard instead of via Boollwarroo Parade and Bass Point Tourist Road, to permit the completion of the entry to the boat harbour.

The community will be kept informed about traffic changes as these works progress, with updates available here www.frasersproperty.com.au/nsw/shell-cove/news-and-events/community-information.
