Mental Health Forum to promote support, access and inclusion

Shellharbour City Council is hosting the Navigating Mental Health Forum to provide information to the community and service providers about how to access appropriate supports for people with mental health conditions.

The event is a partnership with Council and the Community Industry Group and will be held on Wednesday 11 April in the Shellharbour Civic Centre Auditorium from 9.30am to 1pm.

Presenters include Mental Health Commission of NSW, Coordinare, South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network, Grand Pacific Health and the Way Ahead Directory.

The event aims to engage, inform and advise non-mental health providers, including community service organisations, to understand the mental health system to support clients more effectively.

Shellharbour City Mayor Marianne Saliba said the forum supported Council’s aims to promote health and wellbeing, access and inclusion for all members of the community, including people with mental health problems.

“Participants will go away with an understanding of the layers of the mental health system, the customer journey and how to find services, how to refer clients into the system and the ‘NDIS effect’, which is the impact the National Disability Insurance Scheme has had on people’s access to quality mental health care,” Cr Saliba said.

“The forum will feature ‘power pitch’ sessions from local providers to advise you of their service and marketplace stalls for a chance to meet and network.”

The event is free with lunch provided. Bookings are limited to two people per organisation. (An attendance guarantee of $30 applies if you book but do not attend or send a replacement.)
