Shellharbour Council recognises Illawarra Academy of Sport athletes

Shellharbour City Council will honour the city's most talented young athletes at a special reception this week.

The event will recognise 24 athletes who currently hold a scholarship from the Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) in programs including golf, cycling, hockey, triathlon, netball, basketball and the LoneStar category.

Shellharbour City Council General Manager Carey McIntyre commended the hard work of those young people who displayed such positive attitudes and a commitment to a sound, healthy lifestyle.

“Their competitive success is also a testament to the efforts of their families and coaches who are dedicated to supporting the ambitions of these young athletes,” Mr McIntyre said.

“We are proud to see life-long dreams being realised on the international stage and wish them all the best,” he said.

Council will present the IAS with $15,000 sponsorship at the reception, approved as part of the 2017/18 budget.
