Shellharbour Libraries to receive book donation for Social Inclusion Week

Uniting Ability Links has donated a collection of junior and young adult books to Shellharbour City Libraries in celebration of Social Inclusion Week. The books will be on display at Warilla Library and available for loan to library members.

Uniting Ability Links supports people with a disability aged nine to 64, their families and carers. Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said Social Inclusion Week Australia aimed to help all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society.

“Social Inclusion Week is an annual initiative to encourage communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups, nationalities and abilities,” Cr Saliba said.

“Our libraries promote a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. This initiative is a way to connect local communities, workmates, family and friends to build and strengthen relationships or networks and address isolation and exclusion of those who may be marginalised,” she said.

Chosen as a gift recipient from Uniting Ability Links, Shellharbour City Libraries recognises the need to provide inclusive social programs and collections for learning and leisure.

Examples of some of Council’s inclusive library programs include knitting and crochet groups, book club, dance and scrabble groups.
