Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba New Deputy Chair - South East Australian Transport Strategy

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba has been voted the new Deputy Chair of South East Australian Transport Strategy (SEATS).

Mayor Saliba has been involved with SEATS for seven years, was an alternate delegate for a year and has been the delegate for 6 years.

Cr Saliba she said she was honoured to be the new Deputy Chairman and that she looked forward to working even more closely with the executive and other members to further improve transport infrastructure for the region.

“This region is rich in primary resources, has a skilled workforce, natural assets and has huge potential opportunities for improvements to transport infrastructure. Right now transport infrastructure is a major impediment to the growth and prosperity of the region,” Cr Saliba said.

SEATS aims to have an effective integrated transport network that stimulates economic growth that is sustainable and sensitive to the environment and enhances communities.

The organisation embraces south-east NSW, eastern Victoria and the ACT and is bounded by the Hume Highway corridor between Sydney and Melbourne and the coastal strip between Wollongong and Westernport Bay. It is a large region of over 1.5 million people and one of the fastest growing regions in Australia.

The SEATS partnership developed the Transport Network Strategy which collectively identifies several priority projects that go beyond the boundaries of individual local councils and benefit the entire region and beyond.
