Release

Extra regulatory patrols and an increased police presence are planned for Bass Point this October long weekend.

Surveillance patrols by Shellharbour City Council officers will be increased over the long weekend to ensure visitors comply with parking regulations.

City regulation officers and security providers will inspect the site regularly to determine whether any potential campers are in the reserve.

The Department of Primary Industries will also be conducting regular patrols.

Additional afternoon cleaning, restocking of amenities and emptying of bins has also been planned.

Visitors to Bass Point Reserve are reminded that off-road four-wheel-driving is prohibited in all parts of the reserve. Any driving must be confined to designated roads within the reserve.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said new regulatory signs installed at Bass Point earlier this year were helping encourage drivers to be more careful about where they parked.

“These signs were designed to protect the environment by preventing cars from parking in natural areas and damaging vegetation,” Cr Saliba said.

“There are also signs that clearly state the opening and closing times for the reserve, as well as information about prohibited activities.

“We want to ensure this beautiful area is protected, respected and enjoyed by all users and these proactive measures go a long way towards that,” she said.
