Volunteer Opportunities
Shellharbour City Council welcomes volunteers to assist with a variety of community services and activities.

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in the following areas;

Home and Community Care

Our Home and Community Care Centre at Albion Park need volunteers to support the services offered for older residents and residents who have a disability.

Volunteers can undertake a variety of tasks including:

  • providing companionship to people in their homes
  • helping with activities at our day respite centre
  • being a carer on outings

Volunteers receive training and support. Information sessions for prospective volunteers are held regularly but we welcome enquiries at any time. Telephone the HACC Centre on (02) 4257 9036 for information.

Community Transport Services

Council's Community Transport Service is supported by a large team of hard-working volunteers. They work in two main job areas: Community Bus Driving and Community Caring. Additional roles such as Trainer, Vehicle Maintenance Support and Safety Support are also carried. The project will accept enquiries from interested persons at any time.

If you are seeking to be involved as a Driver, a Light Rigid (LR) licence is a prerequisite. Carers desirably will have previous volunteering or caring experience. Volunteers require patience, good listening skills and a willingness to work with people who need a little extra help.

Project volunteers can include people who are retrenched, retired, receiving a pension, employed or unemployed. As a volunteer you would be involved in providing assisted transport services and care for aged residents, young people, children's services, people with disabilities etc. Most trips take place on weekdays through the day or early evening.

Volunteers are reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses incurred during the course of their activities. The hours of work are according to volunteer availability.

Please call us on (02) 4221 6170 to find out how you can assist.
