Carers Week

Carers Week aims to raise awareness of carers, the caring role and relationships, and carer supports and services. A carer is a person who provides unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail aged.

Grab a Bargain from Council's Nursery in celebration of Fair Food Week October 10 - 18

In celebration of National Fair Food Week, Council's nursery is offering the following specials from the 10 -18 October:

  • 10% off all Fruit Trees
  • 10% off all Bagged Potting Mix and Bagged Compost

The nursery is open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 3.45pm (except public holidays), and in celebration of National Fair Food Week they will also be open on Saturday 11th and 18th of October from 8-30 to 1pm. This is a great opportunity for those who can't make it to the nursery during the week to head along.

Council's Growing Minds Greening Communities project is holding a Baby & Kids Market on Saturday 25 October 2014. The event will be held at Centenary Hall, Tongarra Road, and Albion Park from 8am – 12pm as part of the nationwide Garage Sale Trail. The GMGC Baby & Kids Market provides an outlet for the sale of quality second hand babies and children’s goods. The aim of this event is to promote alternatives to throwing away unwanted items to landfill. Shoppers are sure to grab some fantastic bargains whilst stallholders will be rewarded by making a bit of money on the day. It's a win-win for Shellharbour residents and the environment!

Free Guided Lakeside Bird Walk and talk – become a citizen scientist for a day!

Learn more about the birds in our local area and join us on a short leisurely walk along the foreshore Lake Illawarra, bird watching with a local expert from Illawarra Birders on Sunday 26 October, 9:30am – 12:30pm at Lake Illawarra.

This free activity is organised by Shellharbour City Council in partnership with Illawarra Birders and priority is given to Shellharbour City Council residents. Celebration of Ability

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being. The day also seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
IDPwD brings together individuals, businesses, community organisations, and governments from every corner of the world to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.

White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon Day is a male-led campaign that seeks to change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate violence against women.

Each year, Shellharbour City Council supports White Ribbon Day with a series of public awareness campaigns during the week of White Ribbon Day including a fundraiser event at Bunnings to raise money for the Illawarra Local Committee Against Domestic Violence.

"Bag It: Is Your Life Too Plastic?"
18th December at the Roo Theatre

Waste Services are hosting a screening of "Bag It: Is Your Life Too Plastic?", a 2010 American documentary film exposing the effects of plastic bags and other plastic consumer merchandise, and its effects on land ecosystems, the marine environment and the human body (

Bass Point Coastal Discovery Walk
Saturday 17 January 11am – 2pm

Discover the amazing biodiversity of the intertidal rock platform at Bass Point and see the unusual plants and animals that call this environment home. We will be doing some rock hopping and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Bring your own lunch and we'll have a quick picnic on the way. Junior Coastal Explorer Activity at Bass Point

Kids aged 5-12 years, come and join us an adventure exploring the rock platform, discovering what's washed up on the beach and creating a beach art/sand castle masterpiece.
