Community representation on Council’s various Committees and Working Parties is renewed every 2 years in accordance with the Terms of Reference for Committees and Guidelines for Working Parties. We are now seeking nominations from interested members of the community who meet the criteria of a community representative for the following Committees and Working Parties. 

Please note that separate applications must be made if you intend to nominate for more than one Committee or Working Party.

Aboriginal Advisory Committee

Calling for a total of ten (10) Aboriginal Community Representatives (including one Male and one Female elder).

The purpose of the Shellharbour City Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee is to provide professional and strategic advice to Council on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

Criteria – Community Representatives on the Aboriginal Advisory Committee must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander residents who live in the Shellharbour local government area.

Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee

Calling for a total of twelve (12) Community and/or Service Provider Representatives, including a minimum of six (6) people that are residents with disabilities.

The Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee is responsible for ensuring that Council is responsive to the diverse needs of the community and gives a voice to people within the community affected by access and inclusion either stop at community or replace with lived experience of disability and/or exclusion. The committee will advocate and provide advice and priorities, consider changing to recommendations to maximise opportunities for people with a disability living or visiting the City.

Criteria – Community Representatives on the Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee should have an interest in contributing to Shellharbour being an accessible and inclusive City, an ability to work as a team and have an awareness of issues impacting on access and inclusion issues across the City. 

Aquatics and Active Recreation Working Party

Calling for six (6) Community Representatives; one (1) not from swimming clubs or sport associations, one (1) from each local swimming club, one (1) from each Sporting Association/code within the Shellharbour LGA, one (1) from Swimming NSW, one (1) from NSW Sport and one (1) from Surf Life Saving NSW.

The purpose of the Aquatics and Active Recreation Working Party is to provide a forum for collaboration between Councillors, Council Officers, sports clubs, swimming associations and representatives of the community in relation to sport and recreation issues and the provision and operation of aquatic facilities in the Shellharbour Local Government Area (LGA).

Criteria – Community Representatives of this Working Party should demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of aquatic and/or active recreation facilities in the Shellharbour local government area, be involved in the local community and reside in the Shellharbour local government area.

As a community representative you will advocate and give a voice to people within the community by providing input and advice to the relevant Shellharbour City Council Committee and Working Parties.

Community Representatives term of appointment is up until October 2025 with meetings held as and when required. These are voluntary unpaid positions and will be appointed by Council.
