About the Public Art Strategy

The Public Art Strategy is the first strategic Public Art framework for Shellharbour City. It outlines clear goals that have been developed based on the feedback and priorities of our community and customers, as well as best practice industry guidelines. The strategy also acts as a guide for the acquisition and management of Council’s current and future public art collection.

Guided by Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2018 – 2028, and the Arts and Cultural Development Strategy (Make, Play, Grow: a strategy for a more creative Shellharbour), the strategy will facilitate high-quality public art opportunities that reflect the unique and diverse characteristics of the City.

Make, Play, Grow - Our Creative Strategy & Review

Our 2015-2019 Make, Play, Grow Strategy(Opens in a new window) aimed to ensure Shellharbour is a city where creativity thrives and can be a part of everyday life. The strategy placed us in a strong position to enable, assist and support creative ideas, events and activities for the benefit of both residents and visitors. The ideas and actions outlined in the strategy built on existing cultural assets and resources, informed our planning, programming and funding priorities and provided new opportunities for creative endeavours.

We are pleased to showcase our  Make Play Grow Wrap Up(Opens in a new window). This document illustrates our achievements and outcomes from the strategy.

The Wrap Up gives an overview of events, public art, partnerships and even engagement in relation to arts and culture in Shellharbour. We are able to celebrate and recognise our many achievements, in particular:

The expansion of the Lake Illawarra Art Trail;
The expansion of our Mural Trail around the City;
The increase in partnerships within Council, and externally, for a more creative Shellharbour;
The increase in the number of cultural events and creative programming;
Our vision for a more creative Shellharbour being valued, and advocated for, within our community.
