The Shellharbour Local Government Area includes about 7 kilometres of coastline, with Windang Island in the North, and Bass Point, Killalea and Mystics to the South. As a community, we greatly value our coast and beaches, which are largely bordered by urban development, including car parks, public reserves, and housing. The management and planning of this area is an ongoing and important role of Council.

Council manage the coastline in a variety of ways - in the past this has been guided by the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP). Since its expiration in 2023, with your help, Council have been working towards the development of the Coastal Management Program (CMP).

Additionally, Council manage a variety of grants projects, co-funded by the Department of Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water (DCCEEW) through the Coast and Estuary Program. The projects address actions identified in the previous CZMP, and can be read about in more detail below.
