Native Bats Weaving Project

Corinne Payne, a Bundjalung, Gumbaynggirr, Ngarrabul and Walbanja Yuin woman, will create a series of large‑scale suspended flying‑bat sculptures during her residency at the Imaginarium. Each sculpture features a hand‑woven body and wings made from semi‑transparent materials.
Visitors are invited to drop in, observe the creative process, and contribute their own designs to the transparent wing materials, making the final installation a shared community artwork.
Corinne will also run two hands‑on weaving workshops on Monday and Saturday. Council Environmental Educators will join the Monday workshop (22 June) to share insights into local flying‑fox habitat restoration and the ecological importance of these species.
