Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

We are committed to being an inclusive and accessible city and have had formal disability action plans since 2003. These plans have concentrated largely on improvements to our buildings, pathways and recreation areas. Many access improvements are available across our city because of these plans.

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2017 - 2021: An Inclusive City focuses on how we can be a more inclusive and accessible city where people want to live, work and play.

An Inclusive City Evaluation Report provides an overview of the achievements made against the Plan over the last four years and identifies our way forward to meet what was not achieved.

The current Plan has been extended to cover up to 31 December 2022. After this date our next Plan will be endorsed.

International Day of People with Disability.

International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations observed day that is celebrated world-wide on 3 December each year.

The annual Celebration of Ability calendar promotes activities held across the Illawarra in recognition of the day.

To view this year's events go to our Annual Celebration of Ability Calendar.

Accessible toilet facilities

The National Public Toilet Map provides information on over 19,000 publicly available toilets across Australia, including accessibility, opening hours and facilities such as showers and baby change tables.

If the toilet does not meet the conditions described in the map, please email us at council@shellharbour.nsw.gov.au with your name, contact details, the location of the toilet facility and the issue or suggested improvement.

All toilets are fitted with an MLAK (Master Locksmith Access Key). This enables eligible people to access the toilets outside of regular opening hours.

For more information on the MLAK system visit the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia website.
