Bold Foundations is Richard Claremont’s 5-day workshop in Shellharbour NSW, designed to help you build confidence in the core principles of painting—composition, colour, tonal value, and loosening up. You’ll learn the techniques Richard uses in his own work to create strong, expressive pieces that stand out. 

The group will be based in the Imaginarium with optional outdoor sessions (weather permitting), and the workshop is suitable for oils, acrylics, or gouache. Ideal for intermediate painters ready to sharpen their core skills.

True Colours with Shellharbour Arts Society

Baylee Griffin - Artist in Residence

Monday 26 October - Monday 2 November 2026

This October, ceramic artist and community arts facilitator Baylee Griffin joins The Imaginarium as Artist in Residence. Baylee's practice explores our connection to natural materials through sustainable ceramic processes, combining locally sourced clays, recycled materials and traditional techniques to create sculptural forms inspired by nature and folk craft traditions. 

During her residency, Baylee will develop a large-scale ephemeral clay installation inspired by native flora and invite the community to take part through a series of hands-on workshops. Participants will help build a collaborative clay garden using simple coil-building techniques, before returning to take part in its deconstruction and discover how clay can be recycled and remade. The project celebrates creativity, sustainability and the joy of making together, welcoming participants of all ages and skill levels. 

Coil Garden Workshop  
Tuesday 27 October 10am – 1 hr   
Saturday 31 October 10am – 1 hr  

Participants learn simple coil-building techniques to create leaves, flowers, seed pods and imagined botanical forms. Individual pieces are then added to a growing communal clay garden installation at The Imaginarium.

Unmaking Workshop
Sunday 1 November 11am – 1 hr, morning tea included

A facilitated community event where participants return to dismantle the completed installation. Together they crush, break apart and rehydrate the clay, discovering how the material can be endlessly recycled and remade. Clay recycling processes

Woven Traces - Artist in Residency in Malaysia

Woven Traces is an intimate collection of works born from Zara Collins’ month-long residency at Rimbun Dahan, Malaysia. Responding to the richness of its Malay Traditional Textile Collection, Collins moves between paper, metal and found materials, exploring what textiles leave behind: traces of touch, the passage of time and the gradual unravelling of threads. These experimental works capture a period of creative freedom—an opportunity to reflect and make without a predetermined outcome. Woven Traces offers a glimpse into a practice in transition, where traditional textile forms are reimagined through fragile materials, gestures and marks.

Join artist Zara Collins for a conversation about her month-long residency at Rimbun Dahan, Malaysia, and the unexpected creative possibilities that emerged from stepping away from ceramics and into paper. Zara reflects on the value of slowing down, pausing and making without a predetermined outcome - and how this space for experimentation has opened new directions in her practice.
