We celebrate our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through a number of annual events including our Reconciliation Schools Walk, NAIDOC Community Day and Regional NAIDOC awards dinner.

Keep an eye on our events calendar for details on these and other upcoming events.

Reconciliation Schools Walk

National Reconciliation Week is celebrated across Australia every year between 27 May and 3 June to promote and celebrate the shared journeys of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the non-Indigenous communities of Australia.

To mark this annual celebration, Shellharbour City Council proudly hosts the annual Reconciliation School Flag Walk, which involves all schools across the City and the local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. Please note this event is INVITE ONLY.

This year, the Reconciliation School Flag Walk will be held at Reddall Reserve East on Monday 27 May 2024.

The event runs 9am-1pm, and will involve students from local schools walking with flags from Warilla-Barrack Point Surf Life Saving Club, traveling along the shared footpath into Reddall Reserve East. There may be increased traffic during this period.

NAIDOC Community Day

Shellharbour City Council is holding a NAIDOC Family fun day on Monday 8 July 2024 from 11am – 2pm at Shellharbour Civic Centre to celebrate NAIDOC Week. - Save the date!

The NAIDOC Family Fun Day is a free school holiday event focused on celebrating and connecting with local Aboriginal children and families. There will be music, entertainment and interactive family-friendly activities.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from local agencies that service the Shellharbour Aboriginal Community, who would like to participate by hosting a stall and providing an interactive family-friendly activity on the day.

Please fill out our NAIDOC Community Day Stallholder EOI form here.

Applications close on Friday 31 May 2024.
