Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers Course

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) recognises the important role parents and supervisors play in supporting learner drivers, and has developed a course to support and better prepare them for the job. The Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers course covers how to use the Learner Driver Log Book, how to plan on-road driving sessions, how to deal with difficulties that may arise during driving practice and the importance of giving the learner constructive feedback. Parents and supervisors who attended the course have found it boosted their confidence, helped them better plan driving sessions, and allowed them to share their experiences with other parents and supervisors.

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program

The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program is designed for students aged 16 to 18, who are approaching that crucial time in their lives when they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of new drivers.

The program aims to change the way young people think about road safety. As part of an interactive one-day experience, students experience braking at different speeds, create travel strategies that will work for them in the real world, and get tips from road safety experts on how to protect themselves, their friends and family. Powerful personal stories of loss and survival are shared, and attendees watch a powerful and emotional video on the life and tragic death of an 18-year-old provisional driver and her best friend. They are also shown an interview with a car crash survivor, allowing viewers to hear first-hand how one poor choice can change a life forever.
