Motto: "Harvesting Community"
The Oak Flats Community Garden, located at 42 Fisher St, Oak Flats, next to the Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre, was established in 2024. The garden thrives on the efforts of local residents who gather for social gardening twice a week. Everyone is welcome to harvest produce at any time.
At Oak Flats Community Garden, a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables are grown, alongside numerous fruit trees. The garden also features smaller beds filled with flowers designed to attract pollinators. Members who participate in social gardening days have the opportunity to provide input on what is planted. There are 10 garden beds with more currently being established.
Members of the garden meet for social gardening on Sundays at 1pm. Those interested in joining the watering roster can comment on the garden's Facebook page. The committee and executive meet on the second Monday of the month at the Oak Flats Bowling Club at 6:30pm, and all are welcome to attend or join the committee at any time.
The team is led by Tehani Dimond, the president and visionary behind the garden. Anna Cook, the secretary, is responsible for organising events, putting out media information, and speaking at public events.
People can get involved by posting on the Facebook page, Oak Flats Community Garden, or by attending social gardening sessions.
