PLUGGED IN: NEW EV CHARGERS COMING TO SHELLHARBOUR

Shellharbour City Council is charging ahead with two new electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations set to be installed in Lake Illawarra and Warilla.

These new chargers will build on the growing network already available in Shellharbour City Centre, Shell Cove, Albion Park Rail and Albion Park, making charging easier and more accessible across the city.

The new dual chargers will be installed at:

  • Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra – kiosk carpark
  • Beverley Avenue, Warilla – carpark

The project is supported by funding from the NSW Government’s EV Kerbside Charging Grant, which aims to make it easier for people to charge electric vehicles close to home, especially in built-up areas.

Mayor Chris Homer said the new chargers were a step towards a cleaner, greener future.

“We know more people are choosing electric vehicles, and we want to make it easier for our community to charge them,” Mayor Homer said.

“These locations will give residents and visitors more options, especially for those who don’t have a garage or driveway. This is about planning for the future and supporting better, more sustainable transport for Shellharbour.”

The new chargers are expected to be installed over the next 12 months and will be managed and maintained by ChargePost.

Council worked with ChargePost in late 2024 to find the best locations for chargers in the 2528 postcode, as the grant was focused on that area of the city.

The project supports Council’s goals under the Zero Emissions Shellharbour Strategy, including the transition to electric vehicles, reducing transport emissions and supporting sustainable transport options.

It also contributes to Council’s target of net zero community emissions by 2050.
