About the Project:
Shellharbour City Council is undertaking works to repair the structure supporting the public beach access staircase and reconstruct the staircase located between 8 and 10 Shell Cove Road, Barrack Point.
The retaining wall supporting the staircase has deteriorated and the staircase was closed to protect public safety.
The project will deliver a new reinforced concrete staircase and stabilise the retaining wall, providing a safe, durable and long-term solution for this important public beach access point.

Investigation and Design - Complete
Council inspections identified deterioration of the retaining wall and specialist engineers were engaged to assess the structure and develop remediation options.
Tender and Contract Award - Complete
Dynamic Civil Pty Ltd has been appointed to deliver the works.
Construction - September to October 2026
Construction is scheduled to commence on 14 September 2026 and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete (weather permitting).
Project Completion - Expected October 2026
Following construction and final inspections, the staircase will reopen to the community.
