Dunmore Recycling & Waste Disposal - Temporary Disruptions
The Dunmore Recycling & Waste Disposal Depot is owned and operated by Shellharbour City Council. The community can dispose of their waste, recycling & organics.
Important notice
Due to a fire at the Cleanaway factory in St Mary’s, waste processing sites across NSW have been impacted. As a result, we are temporarily unable to accept certain liquid-based and chemical waste at the Dunmore Recycling & Waste Disposal Depot.
Items currently not accepted:
- Oils (including water and oil-based)
- Paints (including water and oil-based)
- Gas bottles
- Aerosols
Our facility is already at capacity, and accepting additional materials of this type would pose a high risk. We ask that residents store their chemical and problem waste at home until we are able to resume collection.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) recommends storing these items in clearly labelled containers, in a cool, dry place, and out of reach of children and pets.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Please check the FAQ's below including the list of "What you can drop off" before visitiong the depot as availability may change at short notice.
We will provide further updates as soon as the situation changes. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and sustainable waste facility.
Is the Dunmore Depot still open for other types of waste disposal?
Yes! Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot is still open and operating to our normal hours. You can still drop off general household waste, recycling, batteries and more. If you're not sure, please ask our staff at the weighbridge or call us on 4221 6200.

When will the affected recycling services resume?
We’re currently seeking more information from the NSW EPA on when this service will resume. While they work through the next steps, we recommend checking our website before visiting or by calling ahead on 4221 6200, as we’ll keep it you updated with any changes to services.
If you’re able to delay your visit a little longer, that may also be an option. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
