Release

Shellharbour City Council is inviting young people aged 12 to 24 who live in the Shellharbour Local Government Area (LGA) to submit an expression of interest and join the Youth Council.

The Shellharbour Youth Council is an advisory group of young leaders who meet regularly to provide advice to Shellharbour City Council on issues concerning their age group.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said that capturing the ideas of young people was extremely important to both the short and long term future of the city.

“Young people who are elected to the Shellharbour Youth Council work with Council staff and community leaders, sharing ideas and are a voice for local young people,” Mayor Homer said.

“I want to encourage our young residents to get involved in local democracy and make sure that their wants and needs are heard.”

Membership runs for one year and provides an exciting opportunity to develop new skills, learn more about the local community and represent young people on decisions that impact them.

There are two types of members within the Youth Council:
•    Community representatives
•    School representatives

Applications close on Friday 6 May.
