Release

Shellharbour City Council has partnered with La Trobe University and Palliative Care NSW to gain a greater understanding of the community’s wants and needs regarding end of life care.

The Healthy End of Life Project (HELP) will provide an opportunity for collaboration and networking, exploring what the concept of healthy end of life means to different people.

Participants can also discover what supports are available to assist someone in their end of life journey, identify gaps in the existing systems, and provide strategies for improvement.

The outcomes will inform the 2022 Disability Strategic Plan and Age Friendly Strategy.

The community engagement will be held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 22 February (10.30am-12pm)
  • Tuesday 1 March (5.30pm-7pm)

The service provider sessions will be held on:

  • Monday 7 March (9.30am-12.30pm)
  • Wednesday 9 March (1.30pm-4.30pm)

Shellharbour City Mayor, Chris Homer, said the project was important, as it would allow Council to identify current and potential assets in the city that could support the community in relation to end of life issues.

“The Healthy End of Life Project sessions are an opportunity for the community to discuss this important topic and I encourage the community to participate,” Mayor Homer said.
