Release

Shellharbour City Council is preparing a Coastal Management Program (CMP) for our beaches and waterways in Shellharbour and is seeking community feedback.

Coastal Management Programs are being developed across the NSW coast to allow for unified management of the ecological, social, cultural and economic values of our coast.

Shellharbour’s CMP will cover the entire Shellharbour coastline from Windang Island to Shellharbour South beach and includes:
•    Warilla Beach
•    Shellharbour North Beach (including the northern end, commonly known as Blacks Beach)
•    Elliot Lake (Little Lake)
•    Nuns Beach
•    Shellharbour Boat Harbour
•    Shell Cove Boat Harbour
•    Shellharbour South Beach

Bass Point, Minnamurra Beach (Mystics) and Killalea are under NSW Government ownership however, the CMP will provide comment on the management of these areas also. Community feedback and engagement is important and will assist us in the development of the CMP.

The community can fill in the survey online or drop in to the Gadhu Room at the Shellharbour Civic Centre on Thursday 14 April between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the CMP was important for the long-term management of coastal regions.

“Our spectacular coastline is a fragile part of our environment and its protection is vitally important, especially in regards to our changing climate,” Mayor Homer said.

“It is also important that our community has the opportunity to have their say on what the priorities and concerns are in regards to coastal management.

“I encourage everyone to either fill in the survey or drop in to the community session on 14 April,” he said.
