Release

Shellharbour City Council is seeking feedback from 12-24 year olds about a specially designed space for young people, as part of the Harrison Park Master Plan.

Shellharbour’s young people have the opportunity to have their say on what they believe should be included in the youth area. They will also go into the draw to win a $100 Apple gift card.

The Harrison Park youth area is currently in the design stage and will involve a defined space with a youth focus, centred on active sport, activity and socialising.

The youth recreation area will be co-located with the Blackbutt Youth Centre to create a hub for the city’s young people, with a wide variety of activities for them to enjoy.

Options for designs include:
•    Basketball half-court
•    Opportunities to skate and ride
•    Multi-use court
•    Ping pong tables
•    Gym and exercise equipment

Other features could include bike racks, shelters, picnic tables and Wi-Fi hotspots. Public art will also feature in the space.

Young people can also vote for other equipment and give their onion on what the vibe of the space should feel like.

Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer said it was important that Council collaborated with the city’s young people in designing a space that they will enjoy.

“The Harrison Park Master Plan allows a fantastic opportunity to create a vibrant, safe space for our young residents,” Mayor Homer said.

“I encourage 12-24 year olds in Shellharbour to have their say and contribute to this great new feature in our city – and they might win a prize in the process!” he said.
