Release

Shellharbour City Council is seeking expressions of interest for Evolve, a new creative event production and management program for young people in the Illawarra aged 16 to 25 years.

Evolve commences Saturday 12 September 2020 and runs once a month over a three month period. It is a joint initiative by Shellharbour City Council with funding from the NSW Youth Opportunities program.

The free program provides mentorship, training, industry talks and practical experience to give local young people the opportunity to acquire new skills, gain experience and open pathways to future employment.

In addition to the four workshops, participants will be able to facilitate their own independent local event supported by Council, with access to venues, equipment, resources and funding.

There will also be the opportunity to attend networking opportunities and gain both voluntary and paid experience on Council’s own creative events.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the program was a fantastic development opportunity for young locals eager to gain firsthand experience in the world of creative event production.

“Evolve provides the resources, skills and opportunities for young people throughout the region to develop and bring to life their creative dreams and visions,” Cr Saliba said.

An autumn course will also run from March to June 2021, with a maximum of 10 people per course.
