HELP US FIND SHELLHARBOUR’S DOGS A FOREVER HOME

Shellharbour City Council is calling on local animal lovers to consider adopting a dog and giving them a safe, loving forever home.

Each year, Council cares for many stray and lost dogs. While the aim is always to reunite pets with their families, some are never claimed. When that happens, Council works with the community and rehoming agencies to find these dogs a new start.

Mayor Chris Homer said Council’s facility has almost reached capacity and several dogs were ready to be adopted.
“These are healthy, friendly dogs that simply need a second chance,” Mayor Homer said.

“We know how much of a difference responsible pet ownership makes. When dogs are microchipped and registered, they’re more likely to be reunited with their families quickly and we see that success every day.”

A Lost Dogs Register, launched earlier this year, now gives the public real-time access to dogs in Council’s care. It’s part of Council’s broader approach to promoting responsible pet ownership, reducing the time animals spend in holding and easing pressure on the facility.

“Responsible pet ownership means more than just caring for your own animal, it means helping others too. If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, now is a great time to adopt,” Mayor Homer said.

Councils service also provides potential adopters to have the option to trial the dog, ensuring a perfect match for both the pet and the family before making a lifelong commitment.
