Release

Shellharbour City will receive two vibrant new nature-themed playground upgrades at John Sheppard Reserve in Albion Park and Village Green in Flinders, with construction to begin this week.

The new playgrounds represent a $240,000 investment. They will replace existing outdated play areas to provide safe and immersive spaces suitable for children of all ages.

The playgrounds feature soft-fall for improved safety, nature play areas, and elements to stimulate the senses including colourful interactive panels, music and touch.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the playgrounds’ popular locations ensured that they will be well used by residents and visitors.

“The Village Green playground’s location is particularly unique in that it is almost directly across from the new KidzWish building, expected to be one of the largest facilities in the region to support sick, disadvantaged or children with disabilities and their families,” Cr Saliba said.

“As well as sensory elements, the playground was also been designed with multiple inclusive play and accessibility features, opening an array of playful possibilities for every child who visits.

“Both playgrounds have a natural colour, with the John Sheppard playground featuring a treehouse-themed tower with native animals,” Cr Saliba said.

Contractors, Moduplay designed the playgrounds based on extensive community and internal consultation. Both are expected to be completed by the end of March 2021.
