Release

As part of the Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) Collection Service, Shellharbour City Council will be providing households with ‘Little Green Bags’ to assist in making the FOGO transition more convenient.

Shellharbour residents will receive a free six-month supply of the bags which are compostable and suitable to use in FOGO caddies and bins.

The ‘Little Green Bags’ will be delivered to households from 27 September and 22 October

The bags are certified to the compostable Australian Standard, which means that they are completely broken down in less than 90 days.

FOGO was launched in Shellharbour in 2016 and allows food and garden waste to be turned into nutrient-rich organic compost.

By disposing of organic waste and using FOGO caddies and bins, residents of the community are assisting in saving landfill space, reducing methane gas emissions, and producing compost that is suitable to reuse in the environment.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said the new initiative supported everyone in the community to get involved and help divert waste from landfill.

“We all have the potential to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a greener future by simply throwing our food scraps into the green bin,” Cr Saliba said.

FOGO caddies can be collected from the Shellharbour Civic Centre and Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot. Proof of residency is required.
