Major upgrades to Shellharbour City Nursery completed

Shellharbour City Nursery has undergone a major refurbishment, with works to improve overall functionality and storage capacity now complete.
The $245,700 investment into the facility also includes a new roof ventilation system for the nursery glasshouse with new motors and polycarbonate roof panels to replace the pre-existing glass panels.
The new and improved roof will result in better temperature control throughout the year and will eliminate the need for yearly maintenance. It will also allow the building to remain open during all weather conditions without any safety risks of glass falling in high winds or storms.
The glasshouse also has 18 new double-tier racks that more than double the holding capacity, as well as two new heating beds to increase propagation capabilities. The nursery has also received a new shade cloth and 15 tonnes of gravel to level out the grounds.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said the improvements would help the nursery continue to provide high-quality products to the community.
“The Nursery does a fantastic job providing the community and council a range of quality native and exotic trees, shrubs, tubestock, fruit plants, potted colour and herbs,” Cr Saliba said.
“The improvements are an exciting step for the Nursery’s overall functionality for staff and will also enhance the range and movement of stock,” she said.
During the refurbishment, plants were stored and propagation was continued through a collaboration with Yallah TAFE and the use of their glasshouse.
