Release

Shellharbour will kick off its Youth Week celebrations with Party by the Pond, a brand-new mini festival developed by young locals as part of Council’s creative event production program Evolve.

Party by the Pond will be held this Friday 16 April from 5pm to 10pm. Located in the heart of the city at Harrison Park, Shellharbour City Centre, the free festival is easily accessible for local young people.

The festival will welcome people of all ages to come enjoy markets and live music from a line-up of nationally recognised performers.

Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, advocate on issues that affect their lives, and demonstrate their creativity.

Youth Week runs from 16 to 24 April and features an extensive program of activities, workshops and events prepared in consultation with the Shellharbour Youth Council.

The program includes a variety of hands-on creative workshops, a great race scavenger hunt, celebrations for International Indigenous Day, a roller skate disco and a mini skate competition.

The annual Civic Centre Market will also be back to support young entrepreneurs and will be held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre from 11am to 2pm, Saturday 17 April.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that this year’s Youth Week celebrations would showcase the vast talents of the city’s young people.

“Providing opportunities for young people to connect and feel part of a community can significantly benefit their overall wellbeing,” Cr Saliba said

“I encourage the community to come support Party by the Pond, an event entirely developed by local young people, as well as get involved in the plenty of other exciting activities on offer for Youth Week,” she said.
Shellharbour City Council’s Youth Week activities aim to support young people to live, grow and play, in line with the Shellharbour Youth Plan 2018-2021, endorsed by Council in late 2018.

Party by the Pond is hosted by Evolve and the Youth Services team with funding from the NSW Government Youth Opportunities Grant.
