Placement of Electoral Campaign and Political advertising material

In order to maintain neutrality during election periods or campaigns, the erection of signage on Council public land is prohibited and any applications to erect electoral or campaign signage on public land will not be supported.  Any electoral or campaign related signs erected on public land may be impounded. 

Such advertising material cannot be displayed on or within land or buildings occupied, used by, or under the control or management of the Crown, NSW Government agencies, or a Council. 

No signage is permitted on any Council properties and/or at any Council facilities including:

  • On trees
  • On footpaths; or
  • Any structure within a road reserve.

Election, Campaign and Political advertising material can be displayed as follows:

Private land or private buildings:

  • with written consent of the owner, or if the property is owned or jointly owned by the candidate.
  • on the outer wall, fence or other boundary, and within the grounds of an enclosure in which a building used for voting is situated, or
  • on election day election material can be fixed or attached to a table or stall on a footpath at the election site.

Mobile signage 

Signage on vehicles, trailers and/or caravans must meet section 4 (1) of the Road Transport Act 2013
