Release

Shellharbour City Council has been working towards upgrading public toilet facilities across the city and is seeking community feedback for continual improvement.

In the 2019 Community Survey, public toilet amenities received low satisfaction ratings and were identified as a key focus area for improvement.

Since receiving this feedback, council has increased their investment in upgrading public toilets at parks, beaches and community facilities.

The public toilet network has 51 toilet blocks across Shellharbour City that are cleaned daily and audited annually to help determine renewal priorities.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that public toilets were important assets for the community and visitors.

“Over the past 12 months almost 1000 kilometres of toilet paper has been used across our toilet facilities, which is enough to roll all the way to Brisbane,” Cr Saliba said.

“Council are striving to deliver toilets that are best practice in public toilet design, hygiene, safety, accessibility and maintenance.

“To make sure council continue to hit the mark in delivering these upgrades, we have adopted a standard design that will be used when renewing these assets.

“Some of our recently upgraded toilet blocks also feature privacy screenings that have been designed by artists to create natural light for more open, inviting and secure spaces,” she said.
