RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REGISTER FOR DROP-IN SESSIONS ON SHELLHARBOUR AIRPORT MASTER PLAN

Shellharbour City Council will host two drop-in sessions on Monday 25 March to provide the community with an opportunity to learn more about the draft Shellharbour Airport Master Plan, ask questions, and provide feedback.

The community is encouraged to register to attend the sessions:
• 9.30am - Home Aged Community Centre (HACC), Albion Park - Register here.
• 5.30pm - 7pm - Shellharbour Civic Centre, Jungah (half auditorium) - Register here.

You can also register by calling 4221 6111.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the public exhibition period had been extended until 5pm Friday 26 April due to the level of interest in the draft Master Plan.

“Council has already received a significant volume of feedback on the draft Master Plan, which evaluates the current status of the airport and considers its strategic future,” Mayor Homer said.

“The decision to extend the public exhibition period is to ensure everyone has enough time to have their say on the proposed changes.

“Shellharbour Airport is one of our community’s largest and most valuable assets. Once the consultation period has closed and the Master Plan is endorsed, it will guide the evolution of the airport for generations to come,” he said

The draft Master Plan aims to provide an assessment of the Airport’s infrastructure and consider what may be required in the future to establish a vibrant business hub that contributes to the regional economic development, tourism and employment.

A key part to realising the vision is to understand the potential for increased commercial airline operations. The draft Master Plan focuses on the potential by considering three potential scenarios:

Scenario 1: Business As Usual

Scenario 2: Introduction of Airport Security - enabling the introduction of medium sized domestic aircraft capable of transferring up to approximately 135 passengers

Scenario 3: Introduction of Affordable Travel Options – enabling the introduction of large sized domestic aircraft capable of transferring 150+ passengers.

The draft Master Plan is on exhibition until Friday 27 April 2024.

Submissions can be made via Council’s Let’s Chat page, in writing to Chief Executive Officer, Locked Bag 155, Shellharbour City Centre, 2529 or by email to council@shellharbour.nsw.gov.au.
