Release

Shellharbour City Council has re-opened playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor exercise equipment and dog parks from Friday 15 May, in line with NSW Government public health orders.

All danger tape and ‘closed’ signs have been removed from playgrounds. They are being replaced with new signage to encourage social distancing.

A limit of 10 people, including adults and children, are allowed to gather at playgrounds, skate parks and dog parks at any one time. Social distancing of 1.5m and good hygiene practises must continue to be adhered to.

Beverley Whitfield Pool at Shellharbour Village is open and regular swimmers known as the Dolphins have returned to the welcoming but icy conditions.

Oak Flats Pool is open for bookings only. Swimming activities are limited to one-hour sessions, with visitors having a maximum of 45 minutes to swim, dry and leave the premises. Staff will use the remaining 15 minutes to clean the area.

At both pools, there is a limit of one person per lane and a maximum of 10 swimmers allowed onsite at all times. Swimmers may have one caregiver to accompany them.

Good hygiene and social distancing of 1.5m are mandatory to ensure a safe environment for staff and visitors. Swimmers are asked to wash at home before using the pools and stay at home if unwell.

The use of showers and change rooms at Oak Flats Pool will not be available and swimmers are asked to minimise use of communal facilities at Beverly Whitfield Pool.

To book a lane, please call Oak Flats Pool on 4256 1362 or for more information about our pools visit: www.shellharbour.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/beaches-and-pools.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that it was important to remain vigilant when using the facilities to help keep each other safe.

“For many community members, the re-opening of these facilities is an exciting step forward. It’s important to remember that the restrictions are in place to keep you, your family and fellow community members safe,” Cr Saliba said.

“These spaces are for everyone to enjoy, so please be patient and consider others by staying a safe distance away. If a playground is full, the Discover My Area service on Council’s website is a great way to explore new playgrounds, and other leisure facilities near you,” she said.
