Release

Shellharbour City Council is replacing 20 suburb signs across the local government area and is calling on the community to vote on their favourite designs.

There are four design packages proposed, featuring colours inspired by the local coastal area, Aboriginal art commissioned by a local Aboriginal artist, natural flora of the area and stylised coloured signage.

The signs signal the change of suburb, assist in navigation around the city and include Aboriginal place names and their meaning.

The practice and commitment of Council to acknowledge Country will be continued with the new signs.

Shellharbour City Mayor Councillor Marianne Saliba said the replacement of suburb signage would provide the area with a more modern, and creative visual way to mark suburb borders.

“I encourage the community to get involved and vote on a design. Council has always been committed to community consultation and this process of asking people to select their favourite design once again demonstrates this,” Cr Saliba said.

Gateway signs sit on the borders of the local government area and will be also replaced in the future. These signs mark the entries and exits from Shellharbour City.
