Release

Shellharbour City Council’s winning streak has continued with the Shellharbour Civic Centre winning the prestigious Minister for Local Governments Award for Engineering Excellence presented at last night’s Institute of Public Works Engineering annual awards ceremony. Also on the night, Shellharbour City Council picked up the excellence award for an Environmental Enhancement Project or Initiative for the state of the art Dunmore Resource Recovery Centre.

The awards for excellence in the field of engineering come on the back of a very successful period for Shellharbour City Council. During 2019 Shellharbour City Council have already received the following recognition:

• Shellharbour City Museum - Museums and Galleries NSW Imagine Award for Best New Build in the ‘Capacity Building, Capital & Sustainability Programs’ category.

• Shellharbour City Library - Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) Public Library Design Awards.

• Shellharbour Civic Centre - public architecture prize in the 2019 New South Wales Architecture Awards.

• Dunmore Resource Recovery Centre was named as one of the top two facilities in the Australian Landfill and Transfer Station Awards.

• And of course NSW local government’s highest honour, winner of the A R Bluett Memorial Award as the most progressive Council in NSW.

The winning streak could continue this month with the Shellharbour Civic Centre up for an Australian Institute of Architects national award after its success at the NSW awards ceremony, and the Dunmore Resource Recovery Facility shortlisted in the national Waste Management and Resource Recovery award for Operational Excellence.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the continued recognition was a reflection of the passion, dedication and hard work of Council staff.

“These latest awards for engineering excellence acknowledge yet another aspect of Council’s commitment to innovation and quality, which are some of the reasons why Council was awarded NSW local government’s top honour with the A R Bluett Memorial Award” Cr Saliba said.

“I am particularly proud of Council being awarded the NSW Institute of Public Works Engineering peak award being the Minister for Local Government Award for Engineering Excellence presented by the Hon. Shelley Hancock, Minister for Local Government” Cr Saliba said.

“The sheer volume of state and national awards Council has recently received reaffirms Shellharbour City Council as setting the standard for local government excellence” Cr Saliba said.

“The soon to be completed new Warilla Library will prove to be yet another superb piece of architecture and engineering that will continue to build on Council’s burgeoning reputation and provide our community with outstanding infrastructure that leads the way for our peers across local government,” Cr Saliba said.
