Release

Shellharbour City Council has installed two new permanent exhibitions displaying the history of the city’s Mayors, Town Clerks and General Managers/CEOs.

Located in the Council Chambers, the exhibitions incorporate a timeline of the Council’s leaders and their photographs starting from 1859 when the Municipality of Shellharbour was proclaimed, through to present day. The exhibition will also be available for online viewing.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the new exhibition was a display of Shellharbour’s rich history.

“It’s truly special to see the city’s diverse leadership history framing the walls of the Council Chamber. I am honoured to be a part of this exhibition and the leadership that has shaped the city over the last 161 years,” Cr Saliba said.

“From our humble beginnings of just 210 residents through to our thriving city, now home to 73,000 people. All the while we have maintained the city’s distinctive and naturally beautiful landscape,” she said.

Mayor Saliba said Council was calling on the community and descendants of previous Mayors, Town Clerks and General Managers to help provide more information for the exhibition.

“Council staff undertook extensive research to inform the exhibition but there is more information that can be added. There are certain time frames where additional information from the community would add tremendous value to the exhibition,” she said.
