The Tokyo Olympic Games have officially begun and Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba is sending her best wishes to local athletes representing Australia.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba encouraged residents to keep their eyes peeled to cheer on the athletes from home.

“I’m so proud to see so many Shellharbour locals representing their nation at the top of their sporting fields,” Cr Saliba said.

“For many individuals and families, sport in Shellharbour plays an important role in everyday life. Shellharbour City Council is committed to providing residents with high-quality sport and recreational facilities, and it’s fantastic to see that this commitment is paying off.

Council also support local athletes through a proud membership with the Illawarra Academy of Sport, and many of the 2021 Shellharbour Olympians have come from this school.

Congratulations to all the athletes, as well as the coaches, umpires and supporting families! It’s now time for the years of training, hard work and dedication to be rewarded.

I have no doubt this extraordinary achievement will inspire the next generation of athletes in Shellharbour and across Australia. Good luck and best wishes,” she said.
