Release

Coordinator of the Warilla Community Centre, Marlene Calleja, is set to retire after 30 years in the role.

The Warilla Community Centre acts as a local hub for community members to come and connect, access programs, supports, services, information, advice and referrals. It also plays a key role in supporting some of the community’s most disadvantaged and at-risk.

Marlene has also been an active member of the Community Industry Group Board and the NSW Council of Social Services (NCOSS) representative on Council’s local Club Grants Committee.

She is a life member of Southern Youth and Family Services (SYFS) and has been a huge support for neighbourhood centres across the Illawarra, advocating for their ongoing support and resourcing.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that Marlene’s distinguished career in community service deserved to be recognised.

“Marlene has been a loyal advocate for the people of Warilla for most of her life, supporting families, individuals and some of the community’s most vulnerable.

“She has been a confidante and friend to many, and leaves behind big shoes that will be difficult to fill. She will be sorely missed and I wish her well in retirement,” Cr Saliba said.
