MAKE A SPLASH IN SHELLHARBOUR THIS SUMMER
With hot summer days still ahead, Shellharbour City is still very much the place to be for avid locals and visitors looking to make the most of the region's best swimming spots.
Shellharbour has several world class beaches, pools, and even a waterfall and swimming hole for people to soak up the sunshine during the heat.
Shellharbour City Council recently held a fun-filled Inflatable Day at Warilla Pool, with more around the corner. Image courtesy of Shellharbour City Council.
Shellharbour City Acting Mayor Cr Kellie Marsh said you could not find many better spots in the world for swimming.
“While the school holidays are nearing an end, summer is still very much in full swing. I urge locals and tourists alike to take advantage of the great number of aquatic venues we have on offer in the region,” Acting Mayor Cr Marsh said.
“As always, I encourage everyone to read safety signs, swim between the red and yellow flags, and stay sun safe.
Pools
Shellharbour has three outdoor pool facilities, located at Albion Park (Russell Street), Oak Flats (Kingston Street), and Warilla (Benaud Crescent).
Each pool contains something different to cater for all swimming abilities. Albion Park features a 50-metre pool, a toddler pool, and a splash park for children. Oak Flats has a 25-metre heated pool, a 50-metre pool, and a toddler pool, whilst Warilla has both a 50-metre pool and a toddler pool.
Council is offering free entry to Albion Park Pool for the upcoming Splash into Summer Open Day on 24 January and at Oak Flats Pool on 31 January between 1pm-3pm. Both days will feature a giant inflatable pool, games, a free sausage sizzle, and so much more.
Shellharbour’s ocean pool Beverley Whitfield is also a popular choice. It’s free, and is perfect for soaking up the outdoors.
Beaches
There are six patrolled locations to choose from – Blacks Beach, Shellharbour North and Shellharbour South, as well as Warilla North, Central, and South. For beach patrol hours, visit Council’s website.
Recently awarded best beach in NSW and second best in Australia, you simply cannot ignore The Farm at Killalea. This beach is not patrolled however, so it is only recommended for extremely strong swimmers.
Lakes and Waterfalls
If you are into snorkelling or standup paddleboarding, there is no better spot than Little Lake Park in Warilla or Bushrangers Bay.
However, if you are not looking to get in the water, rather to bask in its beauty, there are a few key waterfall spots that are picturesque, such as Cascade Walk in Albion Park. The walking track at the foot of Macquarie Pass leads you along the creek through the lush rainforests to the Cascades Waterfall, where the water plunges 20 metres in the pool at the bottom.
