Release

Shellharbour City Council is celebrating the largest senior’s festival in the Southern Hemisphere, NSW Seniors Festival, with a jam-packed calendar of events and activities.

The event will be officially launched at the Shellharbour Civic Centre Auditorium at 10am, Wednesday 12 February during the Health and Wellbeing Expo, and will end Thursday 26 March.

With the theme ‘Love to Celebrate’, the festival will offer a diverse range of experiences. It will provide opportunities for seniors to try new things, share their wisdom, and maintain an active presence in their local communities.

This year’s schedule will once again offer many free and heavily discounted events, workshops, and performances for seniors across the City. These include arts and craft, swimming, tai chi and dancing, as well as a variety of information sessions focusing on health and wellbeing.

There’s also the annual trivia challenge, happiness and health workshop, and a garden themed party at the new Warilla Library.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the festival was a chance for the community to recognise the fantastic contributions senior residents make towards the city.

“I encourage all senior residents to join in the celebrations of this special event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends, make new connections and most importantly have fun,” Cr Saliba said.

“Whether you want to try out multicultural walking soccer, bread baking or simply want to know the key to a good night sleep, it’s never too late to learn something new!”

The official NSW Seniors Festival runs from Wednesday 12 February to Sunday 23 February 2020 and is expected to engage up to 500,000 seniors from across NSW.

Programs are available at Shellharbour City Libraries or online at bit.ly/2QTHxHj.
