Council is seeking nominations from interested members of the community to become a community representative on the following Committees for a term of two years.

Aboriginal Advisory Committee

Calling for a total of six (6) Aboriginal Community Representatives (including one Male and one Female elder).

The purpose of the Shellharbour City Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee (the Committee) is to provide advice to Council on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Shellharbour Local Government Area and within the remit of a NSW local government authority.

Criteria
Community Representatives on the Aboriginal Advisory Committee must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander residents who live in the Shellharbour local government area.

Availability
You must be able to commit to a minimum of two meetings per year, usually on a Thursday at 4pm in March and September.

Coastal and Flood Risk Management Advisory Committee

Calling for a maximum of six (6) Community Representatives.

The purpose of Shellharbour City Council’s Coastal and Flood Risk Management Advisory Committee (the Committee) is to provide a representative forum for informed community, stakeholder and agency advice to Council on coastal management and flood risk management matters affecting Shellharbour City. The Committee assists Council in developing and reviewing studies, programs and management plans, considering technical, social, economic, environmental and cultural matters, and advising on priorities for implementation.

Criteria
Community Representatives on the Coast and Flood Risk Management Advisory Committee would have lived in the Shellharbour Local Government Area for a reasonable amount of time, demonstrate an interest, understanding and commitment to coastal and/or have experienced flooding to their land or dwelling and are able to attend meetings and site visits as required.

Availability
The meetings are held as required, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday at 4pm.

Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee

Calling for a total of six (6) Community and/or Service Provider Representatives, including a minimum of four (4) people that are residents with disabilities.

The purpose of the Shellharbour City Council’s Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (the Committee) is to provide advice to Council on issues affecting people living with disability and their carers within the Shellharbour Local Government Area and within the remit of a NSW local government authority.

Criteria
Community Representatives on the Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee should have an interest in contributing to Shellharbour being an accessible and inclusive City, an ability to work as a team and have an awareness of issues impacting on access and inclusion issues across the City.

Availability
You must be able to commit to a minimum of two meetings per year, usually on a Thursday at 9:30am in April and October

As a community representative you will advocate and give a voice to people within the community by providing input and advice to the relevant Shellharbour City Council Committee and Working Parties.

Community Representatives term of appointment is from January 2027 until the end of the current Council term in 2028.

These are voluntary unpaid positions and will be appointed by Council.
