Shellharbour City Council has finished the year with yet another accolade, as the recipient of the CivicRisk West 2019 Risk Management Award.

Civic Risk Mutual provides risk management solutions for its local government members.

The award was presented to Shellharbour City Council for demonstrating exceptional leadership and exemplary results for an electronic building inspection checklist initiative undertaken by Council’s Building Assessment team.

The project uses technology to record the results of critical stage building inspections, leading to a more efficient and timely inspection process, as well as an improved ability to assess risks in the field.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the award reflected Council’s commitment to excellence and delivering high-quality services to the Shellharbour community.

“The Civic Risk Mutual's Excellence in Risk Management Award honours change-provoking, high achieving risk management initiatives. It could not have been achieved without the diligence, hard work and innovative thinking of Council staff,” Cr Saliba said.

“Throughout the year Council has been recipients of multiple state and national awards, continuously setting the standard for local government excellence,” she said.

During 2019 Shellharbour City Council received the following recognition:

  • Shellharbour City Museum - Museums and Galleries NSW Imagine Award for Best New Build in the ‘Capacity Building, Capital & Sustainability Programs’ category.
  • Shellharbour City Library - Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) Public Library Design Awards.
  • Shellharbour Civic Centre - public architecture prize in the 2019 New South Wales Architecture Awards, and ‘Minister for Local Governments Award for Engineering Excellence’.
  • Dunmore Resource Recovery Centre - was named as one of the top two facilities in the Australian Landfill and Transfer Station Awards, and ‘Environmental Enhancement Project Award’.
