Board Hoarders #3, a skateboard graphic art exhibit, is coming to Shellharbour Civic Centre as a key component of the Surf and Skate Festival.

Shellharbour City Council is co-presenting Board Hoarders #3 with Wollongong creative studio, Verb Syndicate, from Friday 29 November to 15 December.

The exhibition celebrates the vintage era of skateboarding art and will be the third instalment of local South Coast collector Callum Crinis’ prized selection of original 80s boards, as well as additional shapes and styles originating from the 90s and 2000s.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the exhibit could be enjoyed by both skateboard graphic enthusiasts and novices, as well as anyone with an appreciation for the history of board-sports, design, and art.

“This unique exhibition is a direct reflection of skateboarding culture and its origins. It is a fantastic window of opportunity to learn more about how skateboards have been used as a form of artistic expression and reflection of the world over time,” She said.

The exhibited skateboard decks span a lifetime of eras, trends, shapes, aesthetics, and messages.

Collecter, Callum Crinis, said that he was looking forward to sharing his collection locally, and hoped to reach a crowd outside of skateboarding that could appreciate the pieces as the incredible works of art they are.

“Skateboarding is its own art form. It’s art in motion and a reflection of who you are. Everyone skates so differently,” He said.

“Like, you could be at the same spot with five of your mates, and each person will see it in a different way. Art is similar in that you’re putting yourself on to whatever canvas you have; you’re expressing a part of you on it. ”
