Shellharbour City residents are encouraged to contribute to a brighter Christmas for families in need by making a donation to the Mayoress’ Giving Tree. 

For more than 20 years the Shellharbour community has come together to lend a hand to help hundreds of disadvantaged families celebrate Christmas.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said many families would be experiencing added financial pressures this year.

“It’s been another difficult year and some people are struggling to meet daily living expenses. For some people in our community, it just won’t be possible to buy gifts and food this Christmas,” Mayor Homer said.

“I’m immensely proud of our community’s willingness to support others in difficult circumstances. Your donations of gifts and vouchers contribute in helping create special moments for families to share together. 

“If you’re unable to support the appeal this year, a smile and small acts of kindness can go a long way to someone who might be in need of an extra Christmas lift,” she said. 

Simply leave unwrapped gifts in the box next to the Christmas tree in the Shellharbour Civic Centre foyer. The St Vincent de Paul Society will distribute the gifts to families in need, as it has done for many years.

Residents are encouraged to donate gifts before Wednesday 14 December so volunteers have time to sort, wrap and distribute to families by Christmas.
