CELEBRATING SHELLHARBOUR'S LOCAL LEGENDS
Shellharbour City Council has celebrated the achievements of local athletes, community organisations, and young leaders at the Community Donations and Sponsorships Ceremony, held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre on Wednesday, 15 October.
The event recognised recipients from Rounds 2 and 3 of Council’s Community Donations and Sponsorships Program, which provided $12,200 in funding to support participation in national and international competitions, community events, and grassroots initiatives to help locals represent Shellharbour at national and international competitions, deliver community events, and grow grassroots initiatives.

Funding supported a diverse range of activities, including:
• Shellharbour City Touch Football
• Mount Warrigal Kooris United RLFC
• Reddall Reserve Parkrun
• Participants in the Spirit of Cricket International Masters Series
• Students officiating at national school sport championships
• Athletes competing in a variety of sports including BMX, hockey, basketball, touch football, and walking football
Council is proud to have given $16,350 to successful recipients this financial year to date.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer congratulated the recipients and praised their dedication and community spirit.
“It’s inspiring to see so many individuals and groups from Shellharbour making their mark locally, nationally, and internationally. Council is proud to support their journeys and celebrate their contributions to our community,” Mayor Homer said.
“The ceremony was well attended with a great atmosphere as the community came together to recognise local achievements.”
The ceremony also highlighted the launch of the Marina 101 Training Course, a new pilot initiative developed by Council in partnership with Marina Industries Australia, which is fully subsidised, making it free for participating students.
The course welcomed 20 local high school students aged 15-18 and offered hands-on training in marina operations, including infrastructure, customer service, work health and safety, and emergency procedures.
Mayor Homer said: “Programs like Marina 101 give young people real-world skills and pathways to future careers right here in Shellharbour.”
Students recently completed the full-day course at the Marina Services Centre in Shell Cove, including a practical site tour.
Community funding is open year-round and can be applied for at any time. Head to Council’s website for more information.
