Christmas Waste Collections
Shellharbour City Council garbage collection trucks will be taking a break on Christmas day, which means there will be no bin collections on 25 December. Please place your bins on the kerb for your normal bin day and Remondis will come by to collect them within a few days after Christmas.
All residents will receive an extra recycling bin collection between 30 December and 10 January, 2025. Make sure you put your bins out during this period.

“December through to January is certainly the peak period in terms of waste for Shellharbour residents,’ said Shellharbour City Council Executive Manager of Waste Services Ryan Stirling.
“From bottles and cardboard to food, there is traditionally a lot more waste to be disposed of and Council is committed to collecting this waste for our residents. If it’s not collected on your usual day, rest assured, we’re on our way.”
Check your waste calendar for details or visit Council’s website to check what day your bins will be collected. www.shellhabourwaste.com.au/find-my-bin-day/.
Shellharbour City Council is aware that residents are inundated with a range of waste including packaging, wrapping paper, and food waste during the busiest time of the year.
“As a result, Council is promoting a more sustainable Christmas, with the emphasis on recycling, upcycling, and putting food through the FOGO rather than in the red bin,” said Stirling.
Council have outlined a number of key tips to remember when disposing of waste during the Christmas period. These include:
- Using FOGO for all food waste including your prawn shells
- Recycling as much packaging as possible
- Considering environmentally friendly wrapping (fabrics, bags that can be stored and reused)
- Disposing of real trees in FOGO
- Keeping your recycling loose (never put them in a plastic bag)
- Leaving lids and labels on your recycling
- Conserving water by not rinsing your recycling
- Never place batteries in any of your household bins, always B-cycle your batteries
Recycling options are also available at the Dunmore Recycling and Waste Depot. Residents are encouraged to upcycle this Christmas, which can easily be done through the Reviva .
Reviva is the perfect place to go if residents are looking to buy the perfect summer gift such as a second-hand bike or surfboard, or even to donate unwanted Christmas gifts.
